How Botox Treats Excessive Sweating

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is FDA-approved for the treatment of severe underarm sweating (axillary hyperhidrosis). It works by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from nerves that stimulate sweat glands. When sweat glands don't receive these signals, excessive sweating stops. The treatment does not affect your body's ability to regulate temperature — it only targets the overactive sweat glands in the treated area.

What This Treatment Can Address

*Excessive underarm sweating that soaks through clothing
*Sweaty palms affecting handshakes and daily tasks
*Excessive foot sweating causing discomfort
*Sweating unrelated to heat or physical activity
*Antiperspirants and other remedies not working
*Social anxiety or embarrassment caused by visible sweating

Treatment Areas

* Underarms (Axillary)

The most common treatment area. FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating. Botox is injected into the skin of the underarm area to significantly reduce sweat production. Most patients see a dramatic improvement within the first week.

* Hands (Palmar)

Sweaty palms can interfere with handshakes, work, and daily activities. Botox injections into the palms can significantly reduce excessive hand sweating. Numbing cream is applied for comfort.

* Feet (Plantar)

Excessive foot sweating can cause discomfort and hygiene concerns. Botox injections can help reduce sweat production in the feet. Numbing cream is applied for comfort.

What to Expect

01

Consultation & Assessment

Irina evaluates your sweating concerns, discusses which areas are most affected, and determines if Botox is the right approach for your hyperhidrosis. She'll explain the treatment process, expected results, and answer all your questions.

02

Treatment

Small amounts of Botox are injected into the affected area using a fine needle. For underarms, the treatment typically takes 15-20 minutes. The injections target the sweat glands to reduce their activity. Most patients tolerate the procedure very well.

03

Results & Maintenance

You'll notice a significant reduction in sweating within 3-7 days, with full results at about 2 weeks. Results typically last 4-6 months. Irina will recommend a maintenance schedule based on your response.
